19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a difficult season, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually separating with former coach his previous coach.

Now collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from March of 2023.

The win also signifies he has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

His retrieving strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused commentators to wonder if his capacity to perform at the highest level was finished.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an better serving game.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult opponent, securing four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair traded break points in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.

Moutet rescued four early-game break points in a tight deciding set before the champion secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, he secured the win with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
