Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces increasing in power within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his own means, invading the secret base, striking Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as key figures in the powerful family could assist the group reach locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Questers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
