The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been rampant.
The first season introduces a large cast of personalities living within the afterlife, sets them at odds accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and emotional bonds that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 differ greatly, but certain threads recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "However I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by the production companies, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how fast the new season moves, and how many of what they're waiting for unfolds now.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a few fans make a bingo card about season 2," she mentions. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
